Land softly, find the river, eat early
Airport Rail Link from Suvarnabhumi to Phaya Thai
The City Line train hauls you from Suvarnabhumi into central Bangkok in about 30 minutes, dodging the famously slow expressway traffic. Roll luggage straight onto the platform from the basement of the terminal.

Tabi says
Buy a single-journey token from the machines; cards are accepted at most kiosks.
Check in around Phra Nakhon or Charoenkrung
Base yourself in the old city near Phra Nakhon for temple walks, or along Charoenkrung Road for a more design-forward riverside scene with easy ferry pier access.

Tabi says
Skip Sukhumvit for a first trip if temples are the priority; the cross-town commute eats hours.
Sunset Chao Phraya Express Boat Ride
The orange-flag commuter boat runs the Chao Phraya from Sathorn pier north past Wat Arun and the Grand Palace as the sky turns pink. It is local transit, not a tourist cruise, and that is the point.

Tabi says
Board at Sathorn Pier (Central) and ride to Phra Arthit for the best skyline angle.
Boat noodles at Thong Smith or a Phra Athit shophouse
Bangkok eases jet-lagged stomachs with kuay teow reua, a dark-broth pork or beef noodle soup served in small bowls so you can keep ordering. Phra Athit Road near the river is lined with old-school shophouses doing it for almost nothing.

Tabi says
Order three bowls minimum; portions are deliberately tiny.
